St Helena snippets

Friends of ours have recently emigrated to Australia and gave a few local news snippets on their blog, suggesting that other bloggers do likewise to compare. So here’s the major news from the St Helena Independent for this week:
  • Sweet Potato grown at Ivy Bennett’s residence in Ladder Hill weighing 5.1 kgs

  • Jacob’s Ladder no longer lit up at night due to the vandalism of about fifteen of the lights

  • Rockfall in Jamestown causes damage to retaining wall on Ladder Hill.
And three of my photos from Thursday night’s concert appeared – one made the front page!

We wanted to see some people off at the docks in the afternoon – Tammy’s auntie Doreen was leaving, and also Elizabeth and Shanling, who Maddy also wanted to see off. Made some afternoon plans therefore with Pam, Geoff and Maddy which involved the men going off for a swim at Ruperts, and the rest of us hanging around at the docks, thereafter meeting Nick and Geoff at Ruperts (they had finished swimming by the time we arrived; Nick was swinging his legs over the edge of the pier) and coming back here for ‘tea’. I made a quick batch of bolognaise mince with macaroni noodles. After supper and Pam’s super-yummy chocolate pudding we put on a DVD for the boys and Maddy, while the four of us sat around the diningroom table chatting.
